Weather Blues

I am getting to the point where the weather is really starting to piss me off.

Two weeks ago we faced the wind storm of the century which romantically started with darkened nights surrounded by flickering candles and ended less gracefully with the indoor temperature colder than the outdoor temperature. Repeated pilgrimages to the Library for heat and wireless, impromptu visits to friends who still had power for meals and showers and chilly 3AM races to the potty, lost their appeal very quickly after four days.

I do have to admit that it was amazing to see how addicted we have become to modern technology. It was strange sitting face to face just talking with no music or announcer in the background. If we had a question about a person, place or thing, Google was not immediately accessible. In fact, my electric toothbrush was losing some of its zing. Another 24 hours and I would have had to take it to the Library for some furtive charging. Unreal.

Now we are suffering from the second day of the deluge. Never have seen that stream so high. Can't believe the lake in that neighbor's backyard. The puddle in the backyard is turning into a pond. Soaking, torrential rain brings dark skies, chilly ankles, frizzy hair and a strong dose of cabin fever not to mention the smell of wet dog. Lots of wet dog.

Tree across Crooked Mile

Northern Darien looks like a war zone. Downed power lines and fir
trees knocked over like bowling ball ran through town.

Apparently 60,000 households are still without power. Schools closed
again tomorrow.

Women on the Bridge

Yesterday, Chris Brandt and I walked the Brooklyn Bridge along with more than a couple hundred women to mark the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day.

We met at Cadman Plaza, walked across the bridge and met in the part right in front of City Hall.

I have attached a link from CNN's coverage of the event as well as some pictures.
