Delhi notes.

Delhi

Notes from our guide.

16 million population.

India religious distribution
75-80 percent Hindu
16 percent Islam
5 percent Christian

Eating lunch and seeing Old Delhi. Built in 1600's by the 5th Moghul
Emperor Shah Jahan. Moved his capital from Agra to Delhi. Water very
precious. Built huge 5 mile fence with 11 gates to protect the city.

New Delhi 1900's by British.

Ashes of Hindus put in Ghanges. Water is white. (Wonder why.)

Yamamuna River is blue.

Monsoons not what they used to be. Less water. Shorter duration.

Economy with great growth. Why a 42 percent unemployment rate? 70
percent of economy is rural. That number doesn't count those who are
day laborers. Hasn't been a country long enough to build up it's
economy. When the British left, they took all the money.

Motors now run on CNG. No diesel allowed. Delhi had once been ranked
the third most polluted city in the world. Couldn't see the clear blue
sky.

Buses often don't stop. Just have to take a running start. Building a
subway for the past three years.

Taking a rickshaw ride today. Streets are too narrow for cars.
